Orientation
If you are a new student at the University of Toronto, then Orientation is for you! Orientation activities take place in the week or two leading up to the start of classes in early September and will allow you to meet your new classmates and get oriented to the university and its resources. If you are arriving in January you will find some orientation activities taking place, but on a much smaller scale.
There are several types of orientations that you should be aware of and attend:
- orientation for international and exchange students — Remember to Sign Up!
- your student union's orientation/ Clubs Day
- your faculty or college, and residence orientation

Wondering what "frosh" means? A frosh is someone who is new to University. If you're a first-year student, then you're a frosh. You'll hear the word a lot during student union and college Orientation activities, which is often called Frosh Week. |
International and Exchange Students' Orientation
CIE hosts a number of orientation sessions — designed for new international and exchange students — that are aimed at assisting you in the transition to your new environment. You will have a chance to meet the staff of your international centre, as well as your fellow international students. Sessions will cover a variety of topics, including
- immigration regulations,
- health insurance information,
- English language support,
- academic success,
- cross-cultural adaptation and much more.
Orientation sessions are offered at all three campuses. All students are welcome to attend the CIE orientation sessions held at the Cumberland House on the St. George campus. UTM and UTSC students are encouraged also to attend their own orientation sessions.
This orientation requires you to register for sessions! So be sure to check out the appropriate links above.

Faculty, College and Residence Orientations
Your academic faculty will also run orientation activities. This is a great opportunity to connect with your smaller college or faculty community, meet your new classmates, get the scoop on campus life and find out what resources are available to you.
If you are a St. George Arts and Science student, your faculty orientation will be organized through your college of registration.
Your faculty or college will provide you with information about this orientation.
Residences also often run orientation activities. If you are living in residence at your college, then this will be together with your college orientation.
